PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAMME

The aim of the PhD programme in History of Science and Technology is to provide students with advanced training in the history of science and technology and to develop their ability to conduct independent scientific research.

In the programme, besides the topics related to the history of science and technology in different civilisation basins, it is planned to carry out studies to examine the written and visual sources of Turkish history of science. In this framework, graduate students are also offered the opportunity to learn the technical content of the discipline of the basic and formal sciences in which they will conduct research. In addition, students will be provided with the opportunity to learn the classical languages in which the written texts on the history of science and technology are written. The programme deals with the history of the basic and formal sciences, as well as the institutions of science and technological evolution, taking into account the contributions of different civilisations.

The courses will examine the formation of modern science in Europe, the industrial revolution, the history of Turkish science and technology, the development of science and technology in the Islamic world, as well as the evolution of engineering and technology and the importance of periodicals in the institutionalisation of science and the dissemination of science within the framework of 19th-20th century modernisation studies.
